Since January 1, California has enforced new workplace disability protection laws that are stronger than federal US regulations. All employees now have the right to take sick leave for mental health just as they would for physical illness. Employers must also maintain emergency contact lists by March.
California’s FEHA law protects workers at companies with as few as 5 employees, while federal law only covers businesses with 15 or more. Employers must engage in an interactive accommodation process with employees who need support, and face penalties if they refuse to discuss options.
The minimum wage has increased to $16.90 per hour. The state has also expanded mental health insurance coverage for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to include airport firefighters.
[Thailand 🇹🇭]
Thailand still uses a 1% quota system for companies with 100 or more employees, while California has chosen to mandate employer accommodations instead. This is the challenge we must urgently develop to create more job opportunities for people with disabilities.
I want to see the day when employers throughout Thailand view hiring people with disabilities as a benefit, not a burden — and as a truly valuable opportunity.
One share can help change society!!!
